Specialisation course: Stucco finishing techniques

Content

  • Practices on rasilla and on wall.
  • Preparation of the support.
  • Production of the stucco masses.
  • Application of the three coats of white stucco.
  • Composition design: marbled, plain, figurative, abstract…
  • Template production, transfer of the drawing.
  • Application of the brush soap on the stucco.
  • Ironing with irons.
  • Preparation and application of the finishing wax.
  • Pathologies of the stuccoes ironed on.
  • Restoration of an ironed stucco: chromatic reintegration, glazes, with lime and silicate.

Course development

In order to offer a more dynamic experience, the practical part of the course will take place in the mornings, leaving the afternoons to deal with theoretical aspects, didactic excursions, discussion and the sharing of practical cases.

Teaching

Theoretical part

Nuria Casadevall

Fourth generation of stucco artists, Technician in pictorial and archaeological restoration and mural painting by the School of Arts and Crafts of Barcelona.

Specialised in stucco façades, sgraffito and stucco stucco, she teaches at the Escola Massana, at the workshops-school of the Barcelona City Council, at the Museum of Modernism, at the Sert School of Architecture and at the Polytechnic Foundation of Catalonia.

Programme

Day One

Morning

9:00-15:00 (with a short break)

Practical workshop: First contact with aerial lime and aggregates A brief history of sgraffito and fire stucco. Processing on ceramic tongue and groove of the samples with the different mortars produced. Plastering Lean paste fat paste. Processing of plastering, scraping, stone imitation.

Afternoon

Preparation of the support for sgraffito. Making and preparation of the sgraffito template

Day Two

Morning

9:00-15:00 (with a short break)

Practical workshop: ENGRAVING Preparation and application of the stucco layer on the sample. Transfer of the drawing and production of the sgraffito.

The course

The participation fee for the course is

350.- €

Accommodation and Meals

The price of the meals is 25€ per day, including breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper, all prepared with love and mostly from our own gardens. Accommodation can be in a shared room, teepee or single tent with bed (€10/night) or free camping with use of shower and dry toilet (€3/night).
